NEW YORK (AP) — Popular actor Jonathan Majors broke his silence for the first time since being found guilty of assault and harassment against his ex-girlfriend. The New York jury convicted Majors on two misdemeanor counts stemming from a domestic dispute with Grace Jabbari in March 2023. He denies any wrongdoing and is due to be sentenced on Feb. 6, facing up to a year in jail or probation.
In an interview with ABC News, Majors adamantly maintained his innocence, stating that he is not responsible for Jabbari’s injuries, including a fractured finger and a cut behind her ear. When asked how she sustained the injuries, Majors expressed his desire for clarity but claimed to have no knowledge of how they occurred.
The guilty verdict left Majors shocked and fearful. He questioned the outcome, wondering how it was possible given both the prosecution and defense evidence presented during the two-week trial.
Following the conviction, Disney’s Marvel Studios cut ties with Majors, who played the villainous Kang the Conqueror and was expected to appear in upcoming films, including “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.”
The incident leading to Majors’ arrest occurred on March 25, 2023, in a private car. Jabbari testified that she grabbed his phone after discovering a text message from another woman. Majors allegedly forcefully took back his phone, resulting in injuries to Jabbari’s head and finger. However, Majors maintained his innocence, claiming that Jabbari was the aggressor that night and fabricated the allegations after their breakup.
Reflecting on the relationship, Majors admitted to regretting his actions and acknowledged the unhealthy nature of their bond. He expressed his desire to have been braver and walked away, emphasizing that while he was reckless with Jabbari’s heart, he has never physically harmed a woman.
Despite the conviction, Majors remains hopeful about his future in Hollywood, praying for the opportunity to return to the screen.
