Los Angeles, California – T.J. Holmes and Amy Robach opened up about their excessive alcohol consumption during the year 2023 in the latest episode of their podcast “Amy & T.J”. The couple admitted to being “appalled” by their drinking habits after losing their jobs on “GMA3” and going through what they called their version of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Robach, 50, confessed that she had never before consumed alcohol every single day for a whole year, but in 2023 she did just that. She clarified that she wasn’t getting drunk every day, but rather maintaining a constant buzz or heightened state of mind during the challenging year.
Holmes, 46, agreed and acknowledged that he also needed to reevaluate his relationship with alcohol. The couple decided to reveal the extent of their drinking habits to inspire others to do the same.
According to Robach, she was consuming over 30 drinks per week, while Holmes claimed he could easily have 18 drinks a day. They explained that their drinking was often associated with their “runs to fun” routine, where they would go for a run and end up at a bar. Holmes admitted that by lunchtime he would already be two drinks in and would continue to have a drink in his hand until late at night.
Although the numbers may seem excessive, Holmes clarified that they were heavy on pours and didn’t necessarily mean he was pouring 18 drinks. They also discovered the surprising amount of money they were spending on alcohol, totaling $2,869 in December 2023 alone.
While Holmes has participated in Dry January before, Robach announced that this is her first time doing the challenge. She credited Holmes for giving her the courage and support to go cold turkey for the month.
In sharing their story, the couple hopes to encourage others to reflect on their own relationship with alcohol. They emphasized the importance of being honest and brave about the challenges they faced.
In conclusion, T.J. Holmes and Amy Robach expressed their shock at the amount of alcohol they consumed during 2023, leading them to reexamine their relationship with alcohol. They hope that by sharing their experiences, they can inspire others to make positive changes in their own lives.
