Alicia Vikander Joins Cate Blanchett in Comedy ‘Rumours’ about World Leaders Lost in the Woods

Los Angeles, CA – Swedish actress Alicia Vikander has been cast alongside Cate Blanchett in the upcoming comedy “Rumours.” The film, directed by Guy Maddin, Evan Johnson, and Galen Johnson, follows the seven leaders of the world’s wealthiest liberal democracies as they become lost in the woods during the annual G7 summit. As they try to draft a statement on a global crisis, they face increasing dangers.

The Canadian-German co-production recently completed filming in Hungary and features an all-star cast. Joining Vikander and Blanchett are Roy Dupuis, Charles Dance, Denis Ménochet, Nikki Amuka-Bird, Rolando Ravello, Takehiro Hira, and Zlatko Burić. The film is produced by Buffalo Gal Pictures, Maze Pictures, and Square Peg, along with several executive producers.

Vikander, an Oscar winner known for her roles in “The Danish Girl” and “Ex Machina,” has recently been seen in films such as “Firebrand,” “Irma Vep,” “The Green Knight,” and “Blue Bayou.” Blanchett, on the other hand, has an impressive filmography that includes “Carol,” “Elizabeth,” and “Blue Jasmine.”

Bleecker Street has acquired the distribution rights for “Rumours” in the United States. The production received financing from Telefilm Canada, Manitoba Film & Music, Orogen Entertainment Ltd., and Minnow Productions. The film is set to be released in theaters sometime this year.

While the plot details and release date are enticing, there is no doubt that Alicia Vikander and Cate Blanchett’s performances will be a highlight of “Rumours”. Fans will be eagerly awaiting the film’s release to see these two talented actresses bring their characters to life on the big screen.
