In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the 80-year-old artist, who publicly came out as gay in 2017, revealed that he struggled for years with hiding his sexual orientation. Manilow expressed his love and gratitude for his career but admitted it was difficult to keep his sexuality quiet. He constantly worried about the impact it could have on his success. The Grammy Award winner recalled a conversation with record producer Clive Davis in the 1980s, where Davis mentioned that Elton John’s career suffered after he revealed his sexual orientation. However, Davis mentioned that he doesn’t recall having the conversation that Manilow remembered. Barry Manilow married his longtime partner, Garry Kief, in 2014, and is grateful for the support he received from his fans after coming out. He expressed his happiness at becoming a grandfather for the first time after his stepdaughter adopted a baby girl.
