LOS ANGELES (AP) — Chuku Modu is set to reprise his role as Dr. Jared Kalu on the ABC medical drama “The Good Doctor” as a series regular for Season 7. TVLine has exclusively revealed that Modu will be returning to the show in a full-time capacity.
Modu joined the cast of “The Good Doctor” when it first premiered in 2017. His character, Dr. Jared Kalu, initially worked alongside Dr. Melendez and fellow residents Shaun and Claire. Throughout the series, Jared and Claire had a romantic relationship that ended by the conclusion of Season 1.
In Season 2, Jared lost his job at St. Bonaventure after physically assaulting Dr. Coyle, a surgeon who had previously harassed Claire. Following his departure from San Jose, Jared pursued his residency in Denver off-screen.
After a four-year absence, Modu’s character returned to the show in Season 6. It was revealed that Jared had given up his residency at Denver Memorial to become a concierge doctor, a decision he later regretted. Ultimately, he agreed to restart the residency program as a first year and now works under Dr. Shaun Murphy.
Modu’s promotion to series regular in Season 7 follows Hill Harper’s exit from the show. Harper, who portrayed Dr. Marcus Andrews, left “The Good Doctor” to focus on his real-life bid for the United States Senate.
Apart from “The Good Doctor,” Modu’s other notable TV credits include “Game of Thrones,” “The Peripheral,” and “The 100.” He has also appeared in films such as “Me Before You” and “Captain Marvel.”
“The Good Doctor” Season 7 ensemble will feature Freddie Highmore as Dr. Shaun Murphy, Richard Schiff as Aaron Glassman, Christina Chang as Audrey Lim, Fiona Gubelmann as Morgan Reznick, Will Yun Lee as Alex Park, Paige Spara as Lea Dilallo, Noah Galvin as Asher Wolke, and Bria SamonĂ© Henderson as Jordan Allen.
The upcoming season of “The Good Doctor” will premiere on Tuesday, February 20 at 10/9c, following new episodes of “Will Trent” and “The Rookie.” Episodes will also be available for streaming on Hulu the day after they air.
