Calgary Flames Trade Elias Lindholm to Vancouver Canucks in Major NHL Deal

VANCOUVER, British Columbia – The Vancouver Canucks have acquired Elias Lindholm from the Calgary Flames in a trade deal finalized on Wednesday. In exchange for the 29-year-old center, the Flames received Andrei Kuzmenko along with Vancouver’s first-round pick and a conditional fourth-round selection in the 2024 NHL Draft. Additionally, Calgary added defenseman prospects Hunter Brzustewicz and Joni Jurmo to their roster.

Lindholm had a solid performance this season with the Flames, contributing 32 points in 49 games. As a result of his impressive performance, he has been selected as the sixth Vancouver player to participate in the 2024 Honda/Rogers NHL All-Star Game held in Toronto. Joining fellow forwards Brock Boeser, J.T. Miller, and Elias Pettersson, defenseman Quinn Hughes, and goalie Thatcher Demko, this will be Lindholm’s first appearance in the prestigious event.

Throughout his career, Lindholm has amassed 545 points in 792 regular-season games, featuring 212 goals and 333 assists. He has also proven himself in playoff games, recording 17 points in 27 Stanley Cup Playoff appearances. Lindholm’s journey started when he was chosen as the No. 5 pick in the 2013 NHL Draft by the Carolina Hurricanes, before being traded to the Flames.

The trade caught the attention of fans and analysts given Lindholm’s potential to become an unrestricted free agent after this season. Calgary general manager, Craig Conroy, revealed that discussions with multiple teams were ongoing throughout the year. However, the Canucks’ offer stood out among the others, leading to the finalization of the deal. The negotiation process between the two teams involved assessing what would work best for both parties, resulting in the agreement reached.

The acquisition of Lindholm is seen as a strategic move by the Canucks to reinforce their roster for the remainder of the season. As the team looks to make a strong playoff push, Lindholm’s experience and scoring prowess will undoubtedly be valuable assets on the ice. Vancouver fans eagerly anticipate his contributions to the team’s success as they aim for a deep playoff run.
