LOS ANGELES – Carrie Coon, known for her role in HBO’s period drama “The Gilded Age,” has joined the cast of another HBO drama, “The White Lotus,” for its upcoming Season 3. Coon’s addition to the ensemble cast was announced alongside other major names, including Leslie Bibb, Jason Isaacs, Michelle Monaghan, Parker Posey, Dom Hetrakul, and Tayme Thapthimthong. Natasha Rothwell, who appeared in Season 1, will also be returning.
The third season of “The White Lotus” will be set in Thailand and is scheduled to begin production in February. The storyline will follow a new group of guests staying at another White Lotus property. Although specific character details have not been revealed, previous reports suggest that the ensemble will include a patriarch, a female corporate executive, an actress, a couple of mothers, a country club wife, a misfit, and a yogi.
The casting of Season 3 took place after the end of the SAG-AFTRA strike and continued through the holidays. HBO has partnered with the Tourism Authority of Thailand for the filming and promotion of the new season.
“The White Lotus” is an anthology series created, written, and directed by Mike White. The show received critical acclaim and multiple Emmy nominations for its first two seasons, set in Hawaii and Sicily, respectively. Season 3 of “The White Lotus” is expected to be longer and more extravagant, exploring themes of death in Eastern religion and spirituality.
“The White Lotus” Season 3 was originally targeted for a 2024 release but has been delayed due to the strike. HBO’s Chairman and CEO, Casey Bloys, stated that the season is likely to premiere in 2025. The series has become a major Emmy contender, winning multiple awards, including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series.
Carrie Coon is also known for her roles in other anthology series such as “Fargo” and “The Sinner.” She portrays the character Bertha Russell in “The Gilded Age.” Coon’s talent agency representation includes UTA, Foundation Talent, Narrative, and Peikoff Mahan Law.
