Comedian Michael Che Urges Boycott of Award Show Hosting Gigs After Jo Koy’s Controversial Golden Globe Performance

Los Angeles, CA – Michael Che, co-head writer of “Saturday Night Live,” has called for a boycott of hosting gigs at award shows in response to the backlash comedian Jo Koy received for his hosting job at the 81st annual Golden Globe Awards. Che took to Instagram to defend Koy, stating that it is difficult to make movie stars laugh and that they are too self-conscious to enjoy themselves.

During Koy’s monologue at the Golden Globes, he faced criticism for his jokes about Taylor Swift and the film “Barbie.” Che also criticized actors who roll their eyes at jokes during award shows but then fake happiness when they lose their category.

Che argued that Hollywood does not respect comedians, noting that if they did, Eddie Murphy and Jim Carrey would have multiple Oscars for their comedy movies. He concluded by suggesting that magicians should host the Oscars instead.

Koy responded to the criticism he received by admitting that he felt hurt by it. However, he also emphasized that the room at the Golden Globes was tough.

The controversy surrounding Koy’s hosting job has sparked a larger conversation about the role of comedians at award shows and the expectations placed upon them.
