Los Angeles, California – DC Studios is currently in the process of testing actresses for the role of Supergirl, according to sources. Among those under consideration are Milly Alcock, Emilia Jones, and Meg Donnelly. It is expected that screen tests for the role will take place in the coming month.
While there is a possibility that the studio may make a direct offer to a movie star, it seems more likely that screen tests will be conducted. The decision to thoroughly test actresses reflects the studio’s desire to find the perfect fit for the character of Supergirl.
James Gunn, co-boss of DC Studios, is said to be involved in the selection process, as Supergirl may make a cameo appearance in a future DC project separate from her own standalone film. The studio is still searching for a director for the project.
Milly Alcock is best known for her role as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen on HBO’s “House of the Dragon.” Emilia Jones has appeared in films such as “Youth” and “CODA,” as well as the Netflix series “Locke & Key.” Meg Donnelly has starred in Disney Channel’s “Zombies” franchise and has previously voiced Supergirl in DC animated movies.
The Supergirl movie, titled “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,” was announced by James Gunn and Peter Safran at a press day on January 31, 2024. The film is based on Tom King’s comic book series from 2022.
In the meantime, another DC project, “Superman: Legacy,” is set to begin filming in Georgia this spring. The movie will feature David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, and other notable cast members.
The release date for “Superman: Legacy” is scheduled for July 11, 2025. As the search for the Supergirl actress continues, more updates will be provided. DC Studios declined to comment on the matter.
