Los Angeles, California – Marlon Wayans has been cast as the lead in the upcoming sports horror film “Goat.” The project, produced by Universal Pictures and Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw banner, centers around a talented young athlete who is invited to train with a team’s retiring star. Justin Tipping is set to direct the film.
Wayans, known for his comedic talent, was reportedly the top choice for the titular character. The studio was considering screen testing for the role of the young athlete, but ultimately decided on Wayans. Sara Scott, the Executive Vice President of Production Development, and Tony Ducret, the Director of Development, will oversee the project for the studio.
This role marks another milestone for Wayans, following the success of his stand-up comedy specials. His first comedy special, “Woke-ish,” premiered on Netflix in 2018. Since then, he has released two more specials for HBO Max. Wayans also recently guest-hosted a week of “The Daily Show.”
Director Justin Tipping has also garnered attention for his work. His debut feature, “Kicks,” was produced by Animal Kingdom and released by Focus Features. He has also worked on television shows such as “Black Monday,” “The Chi,” and “Dear White People.”
Wayans is represented by 3 Arts, WME, and Vision PR, while Tipping is represented by UTA, Grandview, and Ziffren Brittenham. Jordan Peele is represented by CAA and Jared Levine.
