LOS ANGELES – Fans of Sydney Sweeney were treated to an exciting glimpse of her upcoming role as Spider-Woman in the Marvel universe. The actress, known for her standout performances in “Euphoria” and “The White Lotus,” was cast nearly two years ago in Sony Pictures’ female-led solo movie, “Madame Web.” However, her specific role remained a mystery until it was recently confirmed that she would portray Julia Carpenter in the new Spider-Man film.
In a Chinese poster for “Madame Web,” fans got their best look yet at Sweeney’s portrayal of Spider-Woman. Standing alongside other Spider-Women, played by Celeste O’Connor and Isabela Merced, Sweeney is seen wearing a sleek black and grey suit, complete with a black mask and her hand outstretched. Notably, the mask does not feature the iconic large white eyes seen in the Marvel Comics version of the character.
The poster has generated excitement among fans as “Madame Web” is set to be the first of four Marvel movies releasing in theaters in 2024. With this new portrayal of Julia Carpenter, Sweeney’s Spider-Woman is expected to play a significant role in the film, especially as she is the successor to Cassandra Webb’s superhero character in the comics.
While the upcoming release will provide a complete look at Julia Carpenter’s costume, some notable differences from the Marvel Comics version can already be seen. The sleeves of Sweeney’s costume are a darker grey color compared to the white in the comics, and there are slight variations in the Spider-logo on her upper half.
As for the future of the franchise, Sweeney’s presence in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe suggests she will play an important role in the studio’s plans. However, details about the direction of the universe remain undisclosed.
Fans can anticipate “Madame Web” swinging into theaters on February 14, which marks the start of an exciting year for Marvel movie releases.
