PARIS, France – Netflix has released the teaser trailer for its upcoming adaptation of the iconic 1953 French adventure thriller “The Wages of Fear.” Directed by French action director Julien Leclercq, this new take on the film is highly anticipated.
“The Wages of Fear” is based on the novel by Georges Arnaud and tells the story of four desperate men who find themselves stuck in a backwater desert town for various reasons. In a bid to escape their circumstances, they agree to transport gallons of highly explosive nitroglycerin across treacherous terrain to extinguish an oil field fire.
The original film, directed by Henri-Georges Clouzot, was considered a cinematic classic and earned numerous awards upon its release. However, it was William Friedkin’s adaptation in 1977, titled “Sorcerer,” that later gained recognition as an overlooked masterpiece. Friedkin shifted the location to the South American jungle and replaced the cargo with aged dynamite sweating nitroglycerin.
For this new adaptation, Leclercq teamed up with his “Ganglands” co-writer, Hamid Hlioua, to adapt the original film. The cast includes Franck Gastambide, Alban Lenoir, Ana Girardot, and Sofiane Zermani. Leclercq and Julien Madon will produce the film through Labyrinthe Films and TF1 Studio.
