Oahu, Hawaii – Fox has announced the main cast for its upcoming drama series “Rescue: Hi Surf.” The show was given the green light in April 2023 and will feature a talented ensemble, including Robbie Magasiva, Arielle Kebbel, Adam Demos, Kekoa Kekumano, Alex Aiono, and Zoe Cipres. This group of actors will portray heavy-water lifeguards who patrol and protect the North Shore of Oahu, known for its treacherous coastline. The series will showcase their heroic efforts in saving lives amidst the challenging conditions of Hawaii’s Seven Mile Miracle.
The series, created by Matt Kester, will be executive produced and showrun by John Wells. Wells, known for his work on shows like “ER” and “Shameless,” will also direct the first two episodes. The pilot script was written by Kester, who will work alongside executive producers Erin Jontow and Daniele Nathanson. “Rescue: Hi Surf” is a joint production between Warner Bros. Television and Fox Entertainment, with Wells currently under an overall deal at WBTV.
Each character in the series brings their unique skills and backgrounds to the lifeguard team. Robbie Magasiva will play Harlan “Sonny” Jennings, the lifeguard captain with deep ties to his community and a strong commitment to his team. Arielle Kebbel’s character, Emily “Em” Wright, is the first female lieutenant in Ocean Safety history and a skilled surfer. Adam Demos portrays Will Ready, an Australian surfer with a blue-collar work ethic and unwavering fitness. Kekoa Kekumano takes on the role of Laka Hanohano, a confident and hilarious Native Hawaiian lifeguard. Alex Aiono plays Kainalu, a rookie North Shore lifeguard defying expectations from his privileged background. Lastly, Zoe Cipres portrays Hina, a smart and fierce rookie lifeguard from a working-class Hawaiian family.
Additionally, Sea Shimooka will make appearances in a recurring role as Jenn, a big wave surfer and working EMT. This diverse and talented cast promises to bring authenticity and excitement to the challenging world of lifeguards.
The announcement of “Rescue: Hi Surf” came amidst other developments in the Fox network’s lineup. The hit drama series “9-1-1” will be moving to ABC for its seventh season, while its sister series, “9-1-1: Lone Star,” has been renewed for a fifth season set to debut on Fox in fall 2024.
