Game of Thrones Star Kit Harington Reveals ADHD Diagnosis and Journey to Sobriety

LONDON (AP) — Kit Harington, best known for his role as Jon Snow in the hit series “Game of Thrones,” has revealed his battle with mental health issues and alcoholism. The 37-year-old actor, who entered rehab in 2019 for alcoholism, recently announced that he was also diagnosed with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) during his time in rehab.

Harington opened up about his journey on the wellness podcast “Hidden 20%,” stating that he realized his life was at a turning point when he entered rehab. He described the rehab facility as the right place at the right time, where he was able to forge a new life for himself.

The British actor admitted that he initially entered rehab while under the influence of alcohol but eventually sobered up and decided to tackle his ADHD. Harington revealed that he had previously sought treatment in a different rehab clinic before finding an American facility that diagnosed him with ADHD.

Now sober and focused, Harington is prioritizing his role as a father to his two young children, aged two years and six months, whom he shares with his wife and “Game of Thrones” co-star, Rose Leslie. However, he admitted that the practicality of balancing his acting career and fatherhood can be challenging for him due to his ADHD. Harington described feeling restless and overwhelmed when trying to focus on multiple things at once, acknowledging that he doesn’t multitask well.

Harington’s experience as Jon Snow on “Game of Thrones,” which he played from 2011 to 2019, was also a source of challenges for him. He spoke about the pressures of fame and the impact it had on his mental health, stating that he tried to project an image of sophistication and coolness while battling inner feelings of fear and anxiety.

Throughout his journey, Harington has learned to prioritize his mental health and seek the appropriate help and support. By sharing his story, he hopes to raise awareness about mental health issues and encourage others to seek the help they may need.

ADHD is a disorder that can affect a person’s ability to stay focused and can lead to impulsive behavior. Harington’s diagnosis sheds light on the fact that mental health issues can affect anyone, regardless of their fame or success.
