Georgie and Mandy Return in Young Sheldon Spinoff: Straight-to-Series Order Confirmed

LOS ANGELES – CBS is closing in on a straight-to-series order for a multi-camera spinoff of the popular show “Young Sheldon” from executive producers Steve Holland, Steven Molaro, and Chuck Lorre, and studio Warner Bros Television. The new series, which will focus on the characters Georgie Cooper and Mandy McAllister, is expected to receive a 13-episode order for the 2024-25 season. While deals with Montana Jordan and Emily Osment are still being negotiated, it is anticipated that they will reprise their roles in the spinoff.

In “Young Sheldon,” Montana Jordan plays George Marshall “Georgie” Cooper Jr., Sheldon’s older brother. He dropped out of school at 17 and ended up working at Meemaw’s laundromat, where he met Mandy McAllister, played by Emily Osment. Despite their age difference, the two characters developed a relationship and eventually became engaged.

The spinoff will explore Georgie and Mandy’s relationship further, potentially reaching a period concurrent with “The Big Bang Theory” (BBT). However, if Sheldon were to appear in the spinoff, he would be portrayed by Iain Armitage from “Young Sheldon” rather than Jim Parsons, who played the character in BBT. The spinoff will bring the franchise back to the multi-camera format of “The Big Bang Theory” after the single-camera approach of “Young Sheldon.”

The spinoff extends Chuck Lorre’s longstanding presence on CBS, with “Young Sheldon” and “Bob ♥ Abishola” both ending their runs this season. Holland, Molaro, and Lorre will write and executive produce the spinoff, following their years of experience on “The Big Bang Theory” and “Young Sheldon.”

This new spinoff is separate from the proposed BBT spinoff centered around Max, which Lorre recently revealed is still in the early conceptual phase. Lorre also co-created and executive produces the comedy series “Bookie,” which has just been renewed for a second season.

CBS is further expanding its scripted series lineup for the 2024-25 season with the addition of five new shows. Alongside “Young Sheldon,” the network has ordered dramas “NCIS: Origins,” “Matlock,” and “Watson,” as well as the multi-camera comedy “Poppa’s House.” Additionally, a potential “Fire Country” spinoff is also being explored.

The seventh and final season of “Young Sheldon” will premiere on February 15 and conclude with a one-hour series finale on May 16.
