Geraldine Viswanathan Joins Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts as Ayo Edebiri Exits

Los Angeles, CA – Marvel Studios’ upcoming film, “Thunderbolts,” has announced a new addition to its ensemble cast. Geraldine Viswanathan will be joining the project, replacing Ayo Edebiri who had to depart due to scheduling conflicts. The film’s production was delayed last year due to the dual WGA and SAG AFTRA strikes. Viswanathan’s casting comes after the recent addition of Lewis Pullman, who stepped in for Steven Yeun for similar scheduling reasons.

Marvel Studios has not provided any official comment regarding the casting change.

Viswanathan joins a star-studded lineup that was revealed during Disney’s D23 event last year. The cast already includes Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan as Winter Soldier, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Wyatt Russell as US Agent, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, and Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster.

The film will be directed by Jake Schreier and produced by Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige. As for the plot, little is known, but in the original comics, the Thunderbolts revolves around a group of villains who undertake missions for the government. Fans can expect the movie to hit theaters in July 2025.

Since her breakout role in the Universal comedy “Blockers,” Viswanathan’s career has been on the rise. In 2023, she starred in the TBS series “Miracle Workers” and appeared in the Sundance film “Cat Person” and the Apple film “Beanie Bubble.” Up next, Viswanathan will star opposite Margaret Qualley in Ethan Coen’s “Drive Away Dolls” and in the Amazon comedy “You’re Cordially Invited,” which also features Will Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon.

Viswanathan is represented by WME.
