LOS ANGELES – After being snubbed by the Oscars, director Greta Gerwig and actress Margot Robbie, who were involved in the Barbie film, received support from their Hollywood peers on social media.
Actor John Stamos shared a funny video on Instagram, mimicking the voices of Robbie’s Barbie and Ryan Gosling’s Ken, and expressed his admiration for the film. Stamos captioned the video, “This one goes out to Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie who crafted a film that was both a critical success and a cultural phenomenon, delving into feminist themes through the lens of Barbie and challenging patriarchal norms.”
Simu Liu, who played Ken in the Barbie movie, also expressed his support for Gerwig and Robbie on Twitter. He described their efforts to bring the film to life and praised their impact on cinema. Liu wrote, “Being involved in a small way gave me a window into just how hard Greta and Margot had to fight to get Barbie made, and how flawlessly they executed. Together they started a movement, touched the world and reinvigorated the cinema. They deserve everything. They ARE everything.”
Actress Michelle Yeoh discussed the snubs during an appearance on the Today show. She expressed disappointment but acknowledged the competitive nature of the industry. Yeoh questioned how the film could receive a Best Picture nomination but not nominations for Best Director and Best Actress.
Despite the snubs, Gerwig received a nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay and Robbie received a nomination for Best Picture as one of the film’s producers. Yeoh recognized the film’s success at the box office and expressed her sympathy for Gerwig and Robbie.
Throughout Hollywood, Gerwig and Robbie’s peers have shown their support and admiration for their work on the Barbie film. Despite the lack of recognition from the Oscars, their contributions have left a lasting impact on the industry.
