CHICAGO, IL – In the Season 11 premiere of “Chicago P.D.”, the Intelligence unit faces the challenge of finding a replacement for Detective Ruzek (played by Patrick John Flueger). However, Sergeant Voight (played by Jason Beghe) is opposed to the idea and insists on keeping Ruzek on the team.
Ruzek had survived a gunshot wound in the Season 10 finale and is now on the road to recovery. Upton (played by Tracy Spiridakos) is also struggling, facing personal difficulties as she goes through a divorce and misinterprets a suspect’s actions while working with the crisis prevention team.
Upton’s anger and frustration with her situation are evident as she confides in Voight about her struggles. She realizes that her emotions are affecting her ability to be a good cop and seeks guidance on how to fix it. Unfortunately, Voight doesn’t have the answers she’s looking for.
Executive producer Gwen Sigan sheds light on what lies ahead for Ruzek during his recovery. She explains that his journey back to the job is slow and challenging, with rigorous tests and rehabilitation required. In the second episode, viewers will witness Ruzek’s struggle and the impact it has on his mental state. Burgess (played by Marina Squerciati) will be by his side, attempting to support him through his journey.
The relationship between Burgess and Ruzek has evolved over time, and they are now committed to making it work. Their experiences have taught them the importance of being there for each other during difficult times. Together, they navigate the challenges that come their way.
Meanwhile, Upton and Halstead (played by Jesse Lee Soffer) are headed for a divorce. While Upton claims not to be angry at him, her internal anger is evident and manifests itself in her work. This situation triggers deeper issues related to abandonment and family dynamics. Upton’s storyline this season will focus on her self-discovery and personal growth.
As for Atwater (played by LaRoyce Hawkins), he will have some impactful storylines, including the return of his father. His character will face situations that challenge his core and force him to reassess his values and priorities.
Platt (played by Amy Morton) plays a vital role in keeping the team together and acts as a confidant for Voight. Her presence will be instrumental in his storyline this year.
Returning characters include ASA Chapman (played by Sara Bues), who will further develop her unique relationship with Voight, and Makayla (played by Ramona Edith Williams), the daughter of Burgess and Ruzek, who will make appearances throughout the season.
