LOS ANGELES – Jacob Elordi has been chosen to play the iconic monster in Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming film “Frankenstein” on Netflix. Elordi will replace Andrew Garfield, who had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts caused by strike postponements. The star-studded cast also includes Christoph Waltz, Felix Kammerer, Lars Mikkelsen, David Bradley, and Christian Convery. Oscar Isaac and Mia Goth were previously announced as part of the ensemble.
Del Toro will write, direct, and produce the film, collaborating with J. Miles Dale, a producer on his Netflix series “Cabinet Of Curiosities.” Based on Mary Shelley’s classic novel, the story centers around Victor Frankenstein, a brilliant but egotistical scientist whose experiment to bring a creature to life leads to devastating consequences for both creator and creation.
The filmmaker has been developing the “Frankenstein” project for some time, driven by his desire to create a movie based on the iconic Shelley story. Whether the film will be set in the original period or modern times remains unknown.
Elordi, who recently appeared in several award season films, including “Saltburn” and Sofia Coppola’s “Priscilla,” has had a busy year. Kammerer gained attention as the lead in the Netflix Oscar winner “All Quiet on the Western Front,” while Mikkelsen is known for his role in the hit Netflix series “The Witcher.” Bradley has frequently collaborated with del Toro, most notably in the Oscar-winning animated film “Pinocchio.” Convery is a regular on the Netflix series “Sweet Tooth.”
With the addition of Elordi to the cast, “Frankenstein” continues to generate anticipation. The film aims to bring a fresh perspective to the beloved story while staying true to its Gothic roots. Netflix viewers can look forward to the release of this highly anticipated adaptation.
