LOS ANGELES – Jennifer Lawrence requested actor Robert De Niro to leave her wedding to Cooke Maroney in October 2019 due to unfavorable weather conditions, reminiscent of the Hunger Games. Speaking at the 2024 Golden Globe Awards, Lawrence revealed that the reception had become stressful and she was worried about her guests’ experience. The 33-year-old actress expressed her concerns about the cold weather, although her friends reassured her that everyone was fine. However, Lawrence’s mother, Karen, disagreed, pointing out that her grandmother almost froze to death.
The wedding reception took place at the Belcourt of Newport, a luxurious mansion in Rhode Island designed by renowned architect Richard Morris Hunt in 1894. The event was attended by A-list celebrities including Adele, Amy Schumer, Kris Jenner, Emma Stone, and Ashley Olsen. De Niro, who co-starred with Lawrence in several films, was also present.
Lawrence specifically worried about De Niro’s well-being during the rehearsal dinner. She noticed him wandering around without knowing anyone and decided that being at the wedding was not what he wanted. Lawrence discreetly told De Niro to go home, and he complied by politely talking to her parents before leaving. The actress admitted that she felt better after his departure.
Jennifer Lawrence and Cooke Maroney got engaged in February 2019 and have a 1-year-old son named Cy. The couple’s wedding became a memorable event due to Lawrence’s interaction with De Niro and her concerns about her guests’ comfort in the chilly weather.
AP journalists reached out to Lawrence’s representatives for further comments but did not receive an immediate response.
