LOS ANGELES – Paramount’s latest “Sonic” movie showcased the importance of the hedgehog’s friends, but the studio’s upcoming spinoff series, featuring the character Knuckles and starring Idris Elba, will explore the echidna’s ability to handle solo business ventures.
Set in the narrative gap between “Sonic the Hedgehog 2” and the forthcoming third movie, the “Knuckles” series delves into Knuckles’ new life in Green Hills, Montana. Knuckles, Sonic, and Tails have formed an unconventional family in this small town. Maddie Wachowski, who has taken on a parenting role for Sonic, appreciates Knuckles’ presence as he can finally keep up with the energetic hedgehog. However, Knuckles’ warrior instincts and thirst for vengeance don’t suit the tranquility of small-town living.
In the series trailer, it becomes apparent that these conflicting desires drive Knuckles and local cop Wade Whipple to embark on an adventure in search of formidable adversaries. Yet, as they journey together, they discover that former Robotnik employees aim to exploit Knuckles’ powers. The trailer suggests that the show’s villains, played by Scott Mescudi, Ellie Taylor, and Rory McCann, possess the skills and innovative technology required to neutralize their target.
With just six episodes, “Knuckles” serves as a compact storytelling experience, bridging the gap between Knuckles’ small screen and big screen appearances. The show’s brevity, coupled with its flashy action sequences, has the potential to captivate audiences when it debuts on Paramount Plus on April 26th.
