Los Angeles, CA – Fans of the hit Disney Channel series “Lizzie McGuire” have been eagerly awaiting the revival of the beloved show on Disney+. However, it seems that their hopes for a reunion between Lizzie and Gordo have been dashed. In a recent TikTok video, writer Jonathan Hurwitz revealed some juicy details about the scrapped reboot.
According to Hurwitz, in the second episode of the revival, viewers would have learned that Lizzie and Gordo had been texting occasionally over the years. However, their reunion would not have been what fans expected. Gordo would have dropped the bombshell that he is happily engaged and expecting a baby.
But that’s not all. The third episode, which was never filmed, would have shown Lizzie waking up in bed with her old crush Ethan Craft. The animated Lizzie would then check Ethan off her to-do list not once, but twice.
The canceled revival would have caught up with Lizzie in her 30s, living in New York City as an interior designer and sharing an apartment with her gay roommate. After discovering her boyfriend cheating on her with her best friend, Lizzie would have returned home to California, where her animated alter ego has been patiently waiting.
Despite having two episodes filmed and another one in the works, Disney+ decided to pull the plug on the reboot, deeming it too adult for their family-friendly streaming service. Star Hilary Duff and series creator Terri Minsky fought to have the show moved to Hulu, but their efforts were unsuccessful.
Duff expressed her disappointment in a statement, saying, “I want any reboot of Lizzie to be honest and authentic to who Lizzie would be today. It’s what the character deserves. We can all take a moment to mourn the amazing woman she would have been and the adventures we would have taken with her.”
Fans of “Lizzie McGuire” will have to come to terms with the fact that they will never get to see the grown-up version of their favorite character.
