LOS ANGELES (AP) — A new report suggests that actor Matthew Perry had a troubled past before his untimely death. According to anonymous sources, Perry allegedly lied about his sobriety for years and had a history of abuse. One insider claimed that Perry was verbally, emotionally, and physically abusive, describing him as manipulative. Another source, however, said that Perry had been warped by his addiction, but denied that he was a horrible person.
Perry, best known for his role on the hit TV show “Friends,” had openly discussed his struggles with addiction. In October 2022, he revealed that he had spent $9 million trying to get sober and claimed to have been clean for 18 months. However, after his death in October 2023, prescription drugs were found in his home, although no illegal substances were present. Initial tests ruled out fentanyl and meth as the cause of death, instead attributing it to the effects of ketamine, a depression treatment drug.
The report also detailed incidents of alleged violent behavior by Perry. One source claimed that he had crashed his Aston Martin multiple times while high. Another source alleged that he physically confronted addiction expert Morgan Moses, throwing her into a wall and onto a bed. Perry was said to have expressed remorse over the incident.
It is important to note that these allegations have not been independently verified. Perry’s representative and attorney have not provided any comment on the matter.
Despite these allegations, Perry’s longtime friend and co-star Jennifer Aniston painted a different picture of him. Aniston stated in a recent interview that she had been texting with him on the morning of his death and that he seemed happy and not in pain.
Matthew Perry’s struggle with addiction and alleged abusive behavior have cast a shadow over his legacy. However, the full extent of these claims remains unclear, and no criminal charges were ever filed against him.
