Connor McDavid, the Edmonton Oilers center, emerged victorious for the fourth time in his career, edging out Mathew Barzal of the New York Islanders. McDavid completed the course in a blazing 13.408 seconds, while Barzal was the only other competitor to break the 14-second mark with a time of 13.519 seconds.
In the Tim Hortons NHL One Timers event, Nathan MacKinnon of the Colorado Avalanche displayed his sharpshooting prowess, scoring an impressive 23 points. He outperformed Leon Draisaitl of the Edmonton Oilers and David Pastrnak of the Boston Bruins, both of whom tallied 22 points. The Chicago Blackhawks’ rookie center, Connor Bedard, made a special appearance as a guest passer during the event, adding a touch of intrigue to the competition.
Despite recovering from a fractured jaw, Bedard reveled in the atmosphere and watched the event unfold with great enthusiasm. As he soaked in the energy of Toronto, a fervent hockey market, Bedard expressed gratitude for the opportunity to witness the talent on display, even if he couldn’t participate actively on the ice. “Of course, you want to be (playing in the All-Star Game), but I’m grateful to be here and I get to enjoy it,” Bedard said.
Elias Pettersson of the Vancouver Canucks emerged as the victor in the Scotiabank NHL Passing Challenge, amassing 25 points. His performance outshined Cale Makar, the Colorado Avalanche defenseman, who finished with 23 points. Meanwhile, Makar showcased his blistering shot in the Rogers NHL Hardest Shot event, launching the puck at an impressive 102.56 miles per hour. J.T. Miller of the Vancouver Canucks came close with a shot of 102.34 miles per hour.
Reflecting on his success, Makar expressed surprise at his performance, noting that he had never hit a puck over 100 miles per hour before. Despite his focus on other aspects of the game, his teammates encouraged him to try the hardest shot, and it paid off. “I’ve never really done it, so I thought it would be cool just to see and it worked out in my favor today,” Makar remarked.
