CIUDAD ACUÑA, COAHUILA, MEXICO – Mexican-American actor Adan Canto passed away on January 8 at the age of 42 after a private battle with appendiceal cancer. Canto, who started his career as a musician in Mexico before transitioning to Hollywood, gained recognition for his roles in various television shows and films.
Canto most recently starred in Fox’s drama series “The Cleaning Lady,” playing the male lead for the first two seasons. Although his health prevented him from filming the upcoming Season 3, he had plans to rejoin the cast later in the season. The series will pay tribute to Canto in the Season 3 premiere.
Born in Ciudad Acuña, Coahuila, Mexico in 1981 and raised in Texas, Canto ventured into acting after starting out in local commercials and TV shows. He gained prominence with a major role in Kevin Williamson’s 2013 Fox drama series, “The Following.”
Throughout his career, Canto showcased his versatility as an actor, appearing in shows such as “Designated Survivor,” where he portrayed Vice President-elect Aaron Shore, “Mixology,” “Blood & Oil,” “Narcos,” and “Second Chance.” He also had notable roles in films like “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” “2 Hearts,” “Bruised,” and “Agent Game.”
In addition to his acting career, Canto was an emerging filmmaker. He directed his first short film in 2014 and followed it up with a Western starring Theo Rossi in 2020.
Canto’s representatives at UTA, Entertainment360, and Viewpoint expressed their admiration for the late actor, saying, “Adan had a depth of spirit that few truly knew. Those who glimpsed it were changed forever. He will be greatly missed by so many.”
Canto is survived by his wife and creative partner, Stephanie Ann Canto, as well as their two young children, Roman Alder and Eve Josephine.
