Mia Thornton of ‘Real Housewives of Potomac’ bravely opens up about her past sexual assault

Potomac, Maryland – Reality star Mia Thornton emotionally opened up about her experience of sexual assault on a recent episode of “The Real Housewives of Potomac.” During a luncheon held by her co-star Karen Huger for Promoting Awareness Victim Empowerment (PAVE), an organization that supports rape victims, Thornton became overwhelmed and tearfully retreated to the bathroom.

In a heart-wrenching conversation with co-star Ashley Darby, Thornton explained that leaving immediately when she feels uncomfortable is her coping mechanism. However, on that particular day, she felt trapped and unable to escape the triggering event. Thornton then expressed her displaced anger towards her friend Jacqueline Blake, another previous cast member of “RHOP,” whom she partly blamed for the assault because she had left her alone with the perpetrator.

Struggling with guilt, Thornton acknowledged her unfair treatment of Blake, admitting that she has been a flawed friend to her due to her own pain. Despite not intentionally meant to cause harm, she recognized that she took her anger out on her friend in an effort to cope. Through tears, Thornton acknowledged that Blake had no knowledge of what had happened and was left with her abuser unknowingly.

Throughout the episode, the subject of sexual assault was discussed by other “RHOP” cast members as well. Darby bravely shared that she, too, had her own experience of assault at the hands of a family member when she was younger. The episode shed light on the prevalence of such incidents and the emotional toll they take.

Karen Huger, the host of the luncheon, has been open about her own experience of being raped at the age of 19. In a previous interview with Page Six, she revealed the traumatic event, emphasizing the importance of survivors sharing their stories and the hope that it would resonate with viewers.

The episode of “The Real Housewives of Potomac” brought to the forefront the distressing reality of sexual assault, as well as the emotional aftermath and the complex emotions survivors may grapple with.
