LOS ANGELES – Universal Studios has unveiled the first trailer for the upcoming monster film titled “Abigail,” directed by the acclaimed team Radio Silence, known for their work on the “Scream” franchise. The movie is set to hit theaters on April 19. The studio also released the first logline, revealing the plot of the film.
“Abigail” tells the story of a group of criminals who kidnap a 12-year-old ballerina, the daughter of a powerful underworld figure. Their plan is to collect a $50 million ransom by watching over the girl overnight. However, as they realize they are locked inside an isolated mansion with no ordinary little girl, their numbers start to dwindle, leading to mounting horror.
Sources have previously indicated that the child in the film is the daughter of Dracula, adding a supernatural twist to the storyline. Radio Silence, made up of directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, gained recognition with their horror film “Ready or Not” and continued their success with the revival of the “Scream” franchise in 2022. “Scream VI” became the highest-grossing installment in the franchise’s history.
Melissa Barrera, known for her role in “Scream,” is part of the cast of “Abigail.” However, she was recently fired from “Scream VII” due to social media posts related to the Israel-Hamas conflict. Other notable stars appearing in the film include Dan Stevens, Kathryn Newton, William Catlett, Kevin Durand, and the late actor Angus Cloud, who passed away in July. They will play the kidnappers, while Alisha Weir will portray the character of Abigail.
“Abigail” is produced by William Sherak, Paul Neinstein, James Vanderbilt, and Chad Vilella, under the banner of Project X Entertainment. With its intriguing storyline and notable cast, “Abigail” is highly anticipated by audiences.
