Netflix’s Fool Me Once Loses #1 Spot to American Nightmare: A Must-Watch True Crime Doc

Los Angeles, CA – Harlan Coben’s mystery novel Fool Me Once has been dethroned from its top spot on Netflix’s Top 10 list after several surprising weeks. The new show that took its place is American Nightmare, a three-episode True Crime doc that has drawn comparisons to Gone Girl.

Fool Me Once had an impressive run at number one, accumulating 153 million hours viewed, according to the latest numbers from Netflix. This far surpassed the 50 million hours viewed by the second-place show, The Brothers Sun.

Despite its success, Fool Me Once received mixed reviews. While it garnered a 67% rating on Rotten Tomatoes from critics, fans gave it only a 46% rating, indicating their dissatisfaction with how the mystery unfolded. Although it will not receive a second season as a limited series, its performance on Netflix ensures that the platform will continue investing in more Harlan Coben stories.

In addition to the top two shows, Netflix’s list includes comedian Dusty Slay, known for his clean-cut routine, and The Trust: A Game of Greed, a new reality series. The streaming giant continues to invest heavily in the reality genre.

Loudermilk, another successful show on Netflix, originally debuted on USA Network in 2017 before being acquired by the streaming platform. This highlights Netflix’s ability to revitalize older shows and make them popular again through its extensive reach.

As for the future, it remains to be seen how The Brothers Sun will perform and whether it will secure a second season. Detective Forst, a Polish murder mystery, received negative reviews, deterring many viewers from watching. However, Boy Swallows Universe, an Australian series with high ratings, has been capturing the attention of viewers.

Given American Nightmare’s nature as a short documentary series, it is unlikely to stay at the top for long. Therefore, there is a possibility that Fool Me Once may regain its position in the future.
