Oklahoma City Thunder’s Josh Giddey cleared of alleged misconduct with potential minor, police investigation concludes

Newport Beach, California – Oklahoma City Thunder guard Josh Giddey has been cleared of charges after an investigation by the Newport Beach Police Department into allegations of an inappropriate relationship with a potential minor. The police department stated that they were unable to find evidence supporting the accusations. The NBA has not yet commented on the matter.

In November, when the NBA announced that it would look into the allegations, Giddey chose not to make a statement. The 21-year-old player responded to questions at the time saying, “I understand the question, obviously. No further comment right now.”

NBA commissioner Adam Silver spoke with ESPN in December, explaining that the league would refrain from taking any action against Giddey until the conclusion of the Newport Beach PD investigation. Silver emphasized that when there is an ongoing criminal investigation, the league takes a back seat and respects the player’s rights.

Giddey, chosen as the sixth pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, has been performing well in his rookie season for the Oklahoma City Thunder. He is currently averaging 11.8 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 4.6 assists in 39 games.

The conclusion of the police investigation was first reported by TMZ. Further updates regarding the situation will be provided as they become available.
