New York City (AP) – Rachel McAdams, known for her role as the main bully in the hit movie “Mean Girls” in 2004, made a surprise appearance on the Jan. 20 episode of “Saturday Night Live.” The actress appeared to introduce musical guest Reneé Rapp, who portrays the iconic character Regina George in the 2024 musical remake of the film.
Rapp’s performance of her song “Not My Fault” was met with thunderous applause from the audience. She was joined on stage by Megan Thee Stallion. Following the performance, McAdams returned in a sketch playing Natalie Partman, an actor struggling to find roles because she resembled Rachel McAdams.
McAdams, who hadn’t been involved in recent “Mean Girls” events, added excitement to her unexpected appearance. The original film also starred Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Seyfried, and Lacey Chabert, who recently reunited for a Walmart commercial. Lohan also made a surprise cameo and attended the New York City premiere of the remake.
Although writer Tina Fey and actor Tim Meadows reprised their roles in the musical remake, McAdams did not. In an interview with Variety, she explained that she and Fey had explored several ideas, but ultimately couldn’t make it work. McAdams expressed her anticipation for the direction the film went and her excitement to see the final product.
Furthermore, she declined to appear in the commercial with her fellow cast members, revealing that commercials weren’t her preference. McAdams said she would always love to be part of a “Mean Girls” reunion but hadn’t known about the commercial until later.
McAdams’ surprise appearance on “Saturday Night Live” and her involvement in the beloved film franchise continue to captivate fans. As the anticipation for the “Mean Girls” musical remake builds, audiences eagerly await the performance of Reneé Rapp as Regina George.
