Los Angeles, CA – Daisy Ridley, known for her role as Rey Skywalker in the Star Wars franchise, has confirmed her return to the series in an upcoming film directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. In a recent interview with AlloCiné, Ridley expressed her excitement for the project and hinted that the story would be taking a different direction.
Reflecting on her decision to join the film, Ridley said, “Once I knew what the story was and everything, I knew it was something I really wanted to do. It’s a really fantastic exploration of the Star Wars world. It’s a really cool way of taking the story on in a bit of a different direction.”
Ridley last portrayed Rey in 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, and her return offers fans a continuation of the Skywalker timeline. The film is set after the events of The Rise of Skywalker and follows Rey as she builds a new Jedi Order.
Speaking about her nerves at the London Star Wars Celebration in 2023 when the new project was announced, Ridley admitted, “I was sh**ting myself before I went on stage because no one knew I was going to that…I was so nervous, oh my god.” However, she was relieved to receive a warm reception from the audience and expressed her excitement for the film’s cool story.
When it comes to the future of the Star Wars series, Ridley remained uncertain about whether the upcoming film would be part of a new trilogy or a standalone project. She explained, “I know the storyline for one film. That’s not to say that that’s all it is, but that’s what I was told about. And I imagine it will be the next film, I think.” Ridley also acknowledged the potential delays due to external factors such as strikes but expressed confidence that fans would be thrilled with the story.
With Ridley’s return to the Star Wars universe, fans can eagerly anticipate a fresh and exciting chapter that takes the iconic franchise in a new direction.
