Rumor: R-Rated Animated Spider-Man Movie in the Works, Featuring Spider-Punk

LOS ANGELES – Spider-Man fans eagerly anticipate the highly-anticipated conclusion of the Spider-Verse story in the upcoming film “Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.” However, what lies in store beyond that remains a mystery.

Sony Pictures Animation has been rumored to be developing a female-led spin-off featuring “Spider-Woman” for several years. Yet, it seems that these plans have yet to materialize, leaving fans divided over Sony’s approach to its Marvel characters.

In addition to the animated Spider-Man films, there are reports of live-action TV shows in the works, including “Silk” and “Spider-Man Noir.” On the movie front, Sony has “Madame Web,” “Kraven the Hunter,” and “Venom 3” on the horizon.

In an unexpected move, it has been rumored that Sony Pictures Animation may be planning an R-rated animated Spider-Man film. This decision is peculiar considering that even the previous “Venom” film did not receive an R-rating. However, Sony has been known for its inconsistent approach in the past.

While details about the rumored film are sparse, speculation points to Spider-Punk potentially taking the lead. Social media hints align with internal information, suggesting that Daniel Kaluuya may reprise his role as the rebellious web-slinger. Alternatively, this could be a new iteration of the British hero.

Spider-Punk, or Hobie Brown, made his debut in 2014’s “Edge of Spider-Verse #5.” This version of Spider-Man is a punk rocker who gains spider-powers after being bitten by a radioactive spider. With his countercultural spirit and distinctive punk aesthetic, Spider-Punk fights against oppression and injustice.

In “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” Spider-Punk started as a love rival to Miles Morales but later joined forces with the young hero. Daniel Kaluuya expressed his excitement about playing the character, stating that it felt authentic to be able to bring his Camden roots into the role.

As more information becomes available, Spider-Man fans eagerly await updates on this rumored R-rated animated film and who will take center stage.
