LAS VEGAS – The highly anticipated tech trade show, CES 2024, has kicked off in Las Vegas with Samsung stealing the limelight by showcasing the world’s first transparent micro-LED display during its First Look event. In addition to revealing key details about their QD-OLED S95D and their new soundbar range, including the Music Frame, Samsung showcased three different transparent micro-LED displays with varying designs.
According to Engadget, two of the units featured a tinted glass panel, which enhances the visibility of the frameless screen while obscuring any potential distractions behind it. The third unit, on the other hand, boasts a completely transparent glass panel without any physical frame.
These freestanding demo units at the CES reveal give the illusion of a floating screen due to their slim width of only a centimeter. The high pixel density of micro-LED technology also ensures incredibly sharp images, as noted by Samsung.
The impact of ambient light on these transparent micro-LED displays is significantly reduced compared to transparent OLED panels. Samsung claims that the higher brightness of micro-LEDs sets them apart, directly challenging LG’s rumored big push into transparent OLEDs.
As of now, no official pricing has been announced for the transparent micro-LED displays. Given that Samsung’s introductory 89-inch micro-LED TV is priced as high as a small house, it is expected that these new transparent displays will also come with a hefty price tag, making them an unaffordable luxury for most consumers.
In conclusion, Samsung has unveiled the world’s first-ever transparent micro-LED displays at CES 2024 in Las Vegas. With their sleek design and high pixel density, these displays offer a unique viewing experience. However, the expensive pricing may limit their accessibility to the general public.
