Los Angeles, The popular television show “And Just Like That” will not see the return of Sara Ramirez’s character, Che Diaz, for its third season. Ramirez, who portrays Che, made the announcement in a statement addressing the alleged industry practice of blacklisting actors who support Palestinians in the Israel-Hamas war. The actor called out the entertainment industry’s hypocrisy and performative nature in an Instagram post on January 16.
Ramirez has been vocal about their opposition to the war for over 100 days, alongside their co-star Cynthia Nixon, who plays Miranda Hobbes on the show. The actor expressed frustration with the industry for uplifting their own clients who speak out against the conflict while firing and sidelining those with smaller platforms. In their post, Ramirez also took a swipe at their character, describing the level of performance in Hollywood as even more exaggerated than the role of Che.
Ramirez joined the “Sex and the City” sequel in 2021 as comedian Che. The character quickly became one of the most criticized on television for its portrayal of a non-binary individual. Despite the backlash, Che returned for the show’s second season in 2023. Ramirez acknowledged the public’s hatred toward the character and emphasized their intention to create a complex, imperfect human being who does not seek approval.
Although rumors have circulated that Che’s character has been axed from the show, HBO has not confirmed the news. MailOnline reported that the decision was made because Che no longer adds value to the series. Ramirez’s team and HBO have yet to comment on the situation.
“And Just Like That” creator Michael Patrick King previously announced that the show would be returning for a third season. In the last season, Che’s character no longer had a romantic relationship with Miranda, but remained friends with Miranda and Carrie Bradshaw.
The future of Che Diaz in “And Just Like That” remains uncertain, but fans of the show will be eager to see what lies ahead for the other beloved characters.
