Mumbai, India – The latest Bollywood release, “Fighter,” starring Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone, has surprised industry insiders and analysts with its unexpected drop in box office collections on its first Monday. On day 6, the film earned an estimated ₹7.75 crore nett in India, slightly lower than the previous day’s earnings, according to early estimates from Sacnilk.com.
The total business of “Fighter” in India so far stands at ₹134.25 crore nett, as reported by the portal. Despite the drop, the film’s occupancy rate on day 6 remained at around 12.77 percent, and industry experts anticipate an improvement in the upcoming weekend.
Film trade analyst Sumit Kadel expressed shock over the film’s performance, particularly in B and C tier centers where the audience did not support the film after its opening on Friday, leading to a significant decline in footfall on Monday. Kadel further noted that this trend is concerning for the industry, as “Fighter” was considered a strong contender for the title of Highest Grosser of the Year.
Directed by Siddharth Anand, “Fighter” features an ensemble cast including Roshan, Padukone, Anil Kapoor, Karan Singh Grover, and Akshay Oberoi. The film opened to positive reviews and word-of-mouth praise from audiences. It is produced by Viacom18 Studios in collaboration with Marflix Pictures.
While “Fighter” has performed well at the box office globally, with a gross collection of ₹225 crore, it falls short of the director’s previous films “Pathaan” and “War.” Despite the film garnering attention for its alleged political undertones, Roshan clarified that he trusts his director’s vision and believes the audience can differentiate between entertainment and reality.
“Fighter” continues its theatrical run amidst the ongoing pandemic and restrictive measures.
