Shocking True-Crime Series ‘American Nightmare’ Stuns Netflix Users with Real-Life Tale of Abduction and Police Negligence

VALLEJO, CALIFORNIA – Netflix users are buzzing with astonishment over a new true-crime series called “American Nightmare.” Released by the makers of the popular streamer hit “The Tinder Swindler,” which premiered in February 2022, this three-part series focuses on a case often referred to as “the real-life Gone Girl.”
In 2015, a break-in occurred in the home of Denise Huskin and her boyfriend Aaron Quinn in Vallejo, California. The intruder drugged the couple, abducted Huskin, and held her for ransom. When Quinn sought help from the police, he was disheartened to find they didn’t believe him and even began suspecting him of involvement in her disappearance. Just like the bestselling novel “Gone Girl,” which was subsequently adapted into a film in 2014, Huskin’s case drew comparisons to the plotline of a sudden vanishing with the husband falling under suspicion.
Streaming fans can’t get enough of the captivating series, with some declaring it to be the most mind-boggling Netflix true-crime show to date. Viewers have also expressed shock and disgust concerning the treatment Huskin received from the authorities after watching the series.
“This entire documentary is a prime example of why women don’t call the police when they’re assaulted. The police are so negligent it’s disgusting,” wrote one person on social media. Another viewer echoed the sentiment, stating, “I’m still so emotional and pissed off,” while a third proclaimed, “American Nightmare on Netflix was jaw-dropping. The world is sick.”
Through “American Nightmare,” viewers gain an inside look at the couple’s horrifying ordeal and witness their struggle to have their traumatic experience acknowledged. In a 2021 interview with ABC News, Huskin shared her thoughts on the recovery process, saying, “You can go through any kind of trauma to where it leaves you devastated and in a place where you just think, ‘This is impossible to move forward from. What do I do next?'”
The series is currently available for streaming on Netflix, captivating audiences with its shocking and gripping narrative.
