Spider-Man Face Model Harassed by Fans: Stephanie Tyler Jones Pleads for Respect

Los Angeles, CA – Stephanie Tyler Jones, the woman who provided the face model for Mary Jane Watson in Insomniac’s Spider-Man games, has recently spoken out about the harassment she has received from fans. Jones revealed that she has been receiving phone calls to her workplace, with callers demanding to speak to her. In a public post on social media, Jones asked these fans to stop their harassing behavior.

Jones gained recognition in the Spider-Man community for her role as the face model for Mary Jane Watson in Marvel’s Spider-Man on PS4 and its subsequent ports, spin-offs, and sequel. While Laura Bailey provided the voice for MJ, it was Jones’ face that inspired the character’s in-game model. However, some fans took their enthusiasm too far, according to Jones, and began calling her workplace, leaving voicemails that made her feel unsafe and uncomfortable.

On January 8, Jones posted a public letter on Instagram detailing the harassment she had experienced and requesting that fans respect her boundaries and stop messaging her about Spider-Man and MJ. She expressed her disappointment with followers who had crossed boundaries, including one who went so far as to call her workplace multiple times, which she considered to be stalking.

While Jones appreciates the positive reaction her version of MJ has received from players, she made it clear that she is no longer actively auditioning, acting, or modeling. Instead, she now works in skincare. She asked fans to respect her career change and not to message her about skincare on her Instagram or job.

Jones concluded her letter by asking fans and players to remember that she is a human being trying to make a living, just like them. She kindly requested that they stop messaging her, stating that messages will not be answered and she will block anyone who makes her feel uncomfortable. She even invited those who are disappointed to unfollow her.

While Jones’ experience is unfortunate, it highlights a common occurrence in video game communities and fandoms. Many developers, voice actors, and other individuals involved in the industry have received harassing messages and threats from fans who do not like a game or a character. This behavior is a clear example of fans forgetting that the people on-screen are humans too.

Insomniac, PlayStation, and Jones’ former talent agency have been contacted for comment on the matter. Harassment of individuals involved in the gaming industry remains a significant concern that needs to be addressed.
