London, England – Tottenham Hotspur has secured a deal with Genoa to bring in center-back Radu Dragusin, beating out competition from Bayern Munich. Spurs’ offer for the 21-year-old Romania international was accepted by their Italian counterparts overnight. Dragusin is expected to travel on Wednesday morning to complete the move, while full-back Djed Spence will go the other way on loan till the summer.
According to reports from The Athletic, Tottenham had initiated talks with Genoa last week for Dragusin’s transfer. The negotiations revolved around a £25 million fee, including add-ons and the loan of Spence. Dragusin has had an impressive track record at Genoa, featuring in all 57 league matches since joining the club on loan from Juventus in the summer of 2022. He played a crucial role in Genoa’s promotion from Serie B during his debut season and has been a consistent presence on the pitch this campaign.
Spence’s season-long loan at Championship club Leeds United was cut short last week due to a knee injury, which limited the full-back to just one league appearance before December. The 21-year-old joined Tottenham from Middlesbrough in 2022 and has already had two loan spells away from the club, at Rennes and Leeds.
Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou expressed his desire to sign a central defender in January, as injuries to first-choice defenders Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven have posed challenges in the first half of the season. Postecoglou has had to deploy full-backs Emerson Royal and Ben Davies out of position, with Eric Dier falling out of favor and Ashley Phillips joining Plymouth Argyle on loan.
In summary, Tottenham Hotspur has reached an agreement with Genoa to sign Radu Dragusin, securing the center-back over Bayern Munich. Dragusin will be traveling to complete the move, while Spurs will loan Djed Spence to Genoa until the summer.
