Streaming Success: Percy Jackson and the Olympians Surpass 572 Million Minutes of View Time on Disney+

Los Angeles, California – The Disney+ series “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” has achieved early success with a strong reception from viewers. Based on author Rick Riordan’s popular books, the show garnered impressive numbers in its first week of release. According to Nielsen’s streaming ratings, the first two episodes, which premiered on December 19th, accumulated approximately 572 million minutes of watch time in the United States.

This equates to about 7.15 million complete views of the two episodes among American audiences. Previously, Disney had revealed that the first episode alone had garnered 13.3 million views worldwide within its first six days. These figures confirm that “Percy Jackson” has outperformed recent Marvel premieres on Disney+, such as “Secret Invasion” and season two of “Loki,” in terms of total viewing time.

In the overall streaming landscape for the week of December 18th to December 24th, the top spot was claimed by “Young Sheldon,” with 1.41 billion minutes viewed on both Max and Netflix. Netflix’s movie “Leave the World Behind” dropped to second place with 983 million minutes, followed closely by Zack Snyder’s “Rebel Moon: Part 1” with 966 million minutes. Christmas movies, including “Elf” and “Home Alone,” also experienced a surge in viewership during this period.

“Percy Jackson and the Olympians” ranked fourth among original series during the same time frame. It was surpassed by Prime Video’s “Reacher,” which captured the top spot for the second consecutive week with 1.18 billion minutes, and “The Crown” on Netflix, which accumulated 1.14 billion minutes. Peacock’s anthology drama “Dr. Death” made its debut on the chart with 302 million minutes of viewing after the premiere of its second season.

It is important to note that Nielsen’s streaming ratings only cover viewing on TV sets and do not include minutes watched on computers or mobile devices. Additionally, the ratings solely reflect the audience in the United States. The success of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” highlights the growing popularity of streaming platforms and the enduring appeal of well-known book adaptations in the entertainment landscape.
