LOS ANGELES (AP) — The 75th Annual Emmy Awards, hosted by Anthony Anderson, took place on January 15, 2024, after being postponed for months due to the writers’ and actors’ strikes. The eligibility window for this year’s awards closed between June 1, 2022, and May 31, 2023. Among the winners were familiar names like “Succession” and “Ted Lasso,” as well as new shows like “The Bear,” “The Last of Us,” and “Andor.”
In the category of Outstanding Drama Series, “Succession” took home the prize, along with seven other wins for its final season. The show also earned acting nods for Kieran Culkin, Sarah Snook, and Matthew Macfadyen. “The Bear” had a successful first year at the Emmys, winning Best Comedy and earning acting nods for Jeremy Allen White, Ayo Edebiri, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. Other winners included “Abbott Elementary,” “The White Lotus,” and “Beef” in various categories.
One notable moment at the 2023 Emmys was when Elton John became the 19th person ever to achieve EGOT status, winning for Best Variety Special (Live) for his Disney+ variety show “Elton John Live: Farewell From Dodger Stadium.”
