The Daily Show Wins Emmy for Outstanding Talk Series, Trevor Noah Makes History as First Black Man to Lead a Show to Victory

Los Angeles, CA – “The Daily Show” surprised viewers by winning the Outstanding Talk Series award at the Emmys on Monday night. The Comedy Central show, hosted by Trevor Noah, concluded its seven-year run with an emotional victory. Many expected Stephen Colbert or Jimmy Kimmel to take home the award, but it was Noah who made history as the first Black man to lead a show to victory in this category.

Following the win, Noah and his team faced questions about the future of “The Daily Show.” It has been over a year since Noah left the show, and the focus will now shift to the show’s correspondents to lead it through the upcoming election year. This suggests that the permanent host or hosts of the show may already be among the staff, an idea that is being considered by Paramount, the show’s network.

However, negotiations are currently underway to renew the contracts of several correspondents. Ronny Chieng, Desi Lydic, and Jordan Klepper are in talks for new contracts, while Michael Kosta has already signed up for the upcoming season. Sources indicate that Paramount is prioritizing the retention of these four correspondents.

Chieng and Lydic joined “The Daily Show” in 2015, the same year as Noah, while Kosta and Sloan joined in 2017. Klepper initially joined the show in 2014 but left to host other shows on the network before returning in 2019.

Last year, “The Daily Show” featured 12 celebrity guest hosts due to the writers’ strike. The show also had appearances from its news team correspondents. According to Nielsen’s ratings, Kosta was the highest-rated guest host, followed closely by Chieng, Sloan, Lydic, and Klepper.

As the show looks ahead to its next chapter, a Comedy Central spokeswoman expressed gratitude to the Television Academy for recognizing the show’s talented team. She added that plans for the future of “The Daily Show” will be shared in the coming week.

This unexpected win at the Emmys has generated excitement among fans of “The Daily Show” and has raised speculation about the show’s future direction. Noah’s tenure as host has been acclaimed, and viewers are eager to see who will take the reins and lead the show into its next phase.
