The Last Voyage of the Demeter: Classic Dracula Horror Movie Sets Sail for Streaming Debut on Paramount+ in February 2024

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Fans of underrated horror movies are in for a treat as “The Last Voyage of the Demeter” is set to stream on Paramount+ with SHOWTIME starting February 11, 2024. Directed by André Øvredal, known for his work on “The Autopsy of Jane Doe” and “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark,” this Dracula movie takes a departure from the comedic tone of “Renfield” and instead delivers a classic, Hammer-style horror film set at sea. The film is an adaptation of “The Captain’s Log,” a single passage from Bram Stoker’s iconic novel “Dracula,” which has never been portrayed in this manner before.

Based on Stoker’s 1897 novel, “Dracula,” the movie focuses on the captivating chapter that recounts the ill-fated journey of the Russian schooner, Demeter. Chartered to transport mysterious cargo from Carpathia to London, the crew faces supernatural terror each night during the ocean voyage. Their harrowing experience culminates in the ship’s arrival near Whitby Harbour, only to find it abandoned without a trace of the crew.

Corey Hawkins, best known for his roles in “Kong: Skull Island” and “The Walking Dead,” takes the lead in “The Last Voyage of the Demeter.” The screenplay was penned by Zak Olkewicz, the talented writer behind “Bullet Train.” The cast also includes Aisling Franciosi, Liam Cunningham, David Dastmalchian, Jon Jon Briones, Stefan Kapicic, and Nikolai Nikolaeff, with Javier Botet portraying Dracula.

In a review, it was highlighted that Øvredal’s latest offering boasts intricate world-building, impressive visuals, practical effects, and well-developed characters that ground the story in a grim and claustrophobic atmosphere at sea. The director skillfully intensifies the horror throughout the narrative, showcasing a mastery of creating scares, building tension, and staging gripping sequences, ultimately transforming a familiar tale into a heart-pounding horror adventure.

“The Last Voyage of the Demeter” also showcases stunning production design courtesy of Edward Thomas, the brilliant mind behind the captivating visuals in “Escape Room,” “Escape Room: Tournament of Champions,” and “Monster Hunter.” With its period setting and terrifying premise, this horror gem is one not to be missed.

Mark your calendars for the arrival of this chilling cinematic experience next month.
