Titans Hire Dennard Wilson as Defensive Coordinator, Beating Out Packers, Rams, and Giants

Nashville, Tennessee – The Tennessee Titans have selected Dennard Wilson, the defensive backs coach for the Baltimore Ravens, to be their new defensive coordinator, according to a report by Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report. Wilson, 41, was pursued by several teams including the Green Bay Packers, the Los Angeles Rams, and the New York Giants.

Wilson spent the past season as the secondary coach for the Ravens, but his coaching career extends beyond Baltimore. In 2021, he served as the defensive backs coach for the Philadelphia Eagles, a role he continued in 2022 while also taking on the additional duties of defensive passing game coordinator as the Eagles advanced to Super Bowl LVII.

Wilson’s coaching journey began in 2012 when he joined the Los Angeles Rams as a quality control coach. He was later promoted to defensive backs coach in 2015. After his time in Los Angeles, Wilson served as the defensive backs coach for the New York Jets from 2017 to 2020, taking on passing game coordinator duties in 2019.

Ran Carthon, the General Manager of the Titans, and Wilson have a history of working together during their time with the Rams. This familiarity likely played a role in the Titans’ decision to bring Wilson on board as their new defensive coordinator.

The Ravens have faced significant staff changes recently. In addition to Wilson’s departure, they have also lost Joe Hortiz, their director of player personnel, who has accepted a General Manager position with the Los Angeles Chargers. Furthermore, their defensive coordinator, Mike Macdonald, has been hired as the head coach for the Seattle Seahawks.

The Titans’ decision to hire Dennard Wilson as their defensive coordinator reflects their ambition to strengthen their defensive strategies. As the team prepares for the upcoming season, Wilson will bring his expertise and experience to the Titans, aiming to improve their performance on the field.
