Trade Deadline Looms: NBA’s Re-Signed Players Now Trade-Eligible, Including D’Angelo Russell, Jerami Grant, Matisse Thybulle, Kyle Kuzma, Rui Hachimura, and More

It’s mid-January in the NBA season, which means players who re-signed with their previous teams last offseason are now eligible to be traded. This group of players includes notable names such as D’Angelo Russell, Jerami Grant, Matisse Thybulle, Kyle Kuzma, Rui Hachimura, and more. While some of these players will be featured on the updated trade board, others may not make the cut.

This development means that nearly every player in the league, with a few exceptions, can now be traded. This opens up a world of possibilities as teams look to make moves before the trade deadline. Already, we’ve witnessed the New York Knicks and Toronto Raptors putting their ongoing litigation aside to complete a deal involving OG Anunoby, RJ Barrett, and Immanuel Quickley. It’s expected that more trades will follow in the coming weeks, with teams like the Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors looking to shake up their rosters for a playoff run, while others like the Charlotte Hornets and Washington Wizards may be sellers as they fall out of the postseason race.

As for the remaining players available on the market, the list remains fairly conservative at this point, considering there’s still a month left until the trade deadline on February 8. The initial trade board has expanded from 25 players to 35, taking into account the evolving goals and strategies of teams as the deadline approaches.

There are, however, a few notable players who won’t be on the list—for now. All-stars Donovan Mitchell and Lauri Markkanen seem unlikely to be traded, with the Cleveland Cavaliers planning to ride out the season with Mitchell and Markkanen’s high price tag effectively taking him off the market. Additionally, young players Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody of the Golden State Warriors aren’t actively being included in trade negotiations, as the team’s new general manager highly values both players and hopes to retain them if possible.

Jerami Grant, another notable name, is also absent from the list as it’s difficult to gauge the Portland Trail Blazers’ willingness to part ways with him and how other teams value his substantial contract.

As for the Brooklyn Nets, it’s uncertain which direction they will go, leading to a lack of representation from their players on the trade board. Even though role players like Dorian Finney-Smith are highly valued, the Nets, sitting in the Eastern Conference Play-In race, are in no rush to make a decision on their futures, especially with Finney-Smith signed long-term.

It’s important to note that this trade board will likely change in the coming weeks, with completed trades taking some players off the list and others potentially signing contract extensions with their current teams. For now, this is where we stand, but stay tuned for updates as the trade deadline approaches.
