LOS ANGELES, CA – Universal Pictures and Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw banner are set to bring their sports horror film “Goat” to the big screen, and they have cast actor Marlon Wayans as the lead, according to sources. Directed by Justin Tipping and produced by Jordan Peele, Win Rosenfeld, Ian Cooper, and Jamal Watson, the film revolves around a talented young athlete who gets the opportunity to train with a retiring superstar. Wayans was reportedly the top choice for the titular character from the start, despite the studio considering other actors through screen testing. The project is being overseen by Exec Vice President of Production Development Sara Scott and Director of Development Tony Ducret.
Wayans has been garnering attention for his recent stand-up comedy specials, including “Woke-ish” and “Marlon Wayans: God Loves Me,” both of which received positive reviews. In addition to his comedy work, Wayans has also made appearances in various film and television projects, including Prime Video’s “AIR” and Netflix’s “The Curse of Bridge Hollow.”
Director Justin Tipping, best known for his debut feature film “Kicks,” is at the helm of “Goat.” Tipping’s previous work has received critical acclaim, showcasing his talent and potential in the industry.
